Group & Invitations
How do I invite someone to my Dinna Party?
Go to Settings → your group → Invite Members. You can share the invite link directly via text, email, or any messaging app. The person you invite will need to download Dinna and create an account, then they'll be added to your group automatically when they tap the link.
Can I be in more than one group?
On the Core (free) tier, you can be in one group. Pro members can create or join up to three groups — useful if you coordinate meals with different households or have separate weekday and weekend groups.
How do I leave a group?
Go to Settings → the group you want to leave → Leave Group. Your personal data stays with your account, but your votes and suggestions in that group will no longer be visible to other members. You can rejoin later with a new invite link.
What happens if the Head Chef leaves or deletes the group?
If the Head Chef leaves, another member is promoted to Head Chef automatically. If the Head Chef deletes the group, all members are removed and the group's data is permanently deleted after 30 days.
Meal Planning & Voting
How does voting work?
Each week, group members can vote for meals they'd like to see on next week's menu. You get a limited number of votes (based on group size), so pick your favorites. The Head Chef sees the results and uses them to plan the schedule — popular picks are more likely to make the cut.
Can I suggest a meal if I'm not the Head Chef?
Yes. Go to the Meals tab and tap "Suggest a Meal." Enter the meal name and an optional note. The Head Chef gets a notification and can approve your suggestion, which adds it to the group's meal library for everyone.
What is the Chef's Hat?
The Chef's Hat is a way for the Head Chef to temporarily hand off planning duties to another group member. When someone "has the hat," they can manage the menu and schedule for the week. The Head Chef can pass or reclaim the hat anytime from Settings.
What does "Check In" mean?
After dinner, any group member can check in on that day's meal to confirm it was made. This updates your group's stats — like which meals you cook most often and your group's cooking streak. It takes two seconds and helps Dinna learn your household's habits.
Shopping & Inventory
How does the shopping list work?
Dinna looks at your upcoming menu and compares it against what's already in your group's inventory. Anything that's missing shows up on the shopping list automatically. You can check items off as you shop. This feature is available on both tiers.
What is Supply Scout?
Supply Scout is a Pro feature that uses your phone's camera to scan your fridge, pantry, or receipts and automatically identifies ingredients. The image is processed by AI and then discarded — we don't store photos after scanning. It's the fastest way to keep your inventory up to date.
Subscription & Billing
What's included in the Pro tier?
Pro includes Supply Scout (AI-powered ingredient scanning), Recipe Finder (AI-suggested meals based on what you have), and Smart Schedule. Pro comes with a 14-day free trial — no charge until the trial ends.
When does my free trial start?
Your 14-day Pro trial starts when you create your first group — not when you download the app. This gives you time to explore before the clock starts.
What happens when my trial ends?
You keep your account, your group, and all your meals and history. Pro-only features like Supply Scout, Recipe Finder, and Smart Schedule become unavailable until you upgrade. You can continue using Dinna on the Core tier at no cost.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). To cancel: on iOS go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. On Android go to Google Play → Subscriptions. You can also contact us and we'll help.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Your subscription is tied to your App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) account, not to your Dinna account. On your new device, sign in with the same store account you originally purchased with, and your Pro access will restore automatically. If it doesn't, contact us.
General Usage
How do I change the dinner time for my group?
The Head Chef can change the group's dinner time by going to Settings → the group name → Dinner Time. This affects when dinner reminders and notifications are sent to the group.
Can I add sides or different meal types?
Yes. When adding a meal, you can categorize it as Homemade, Takeout, or Leftovers. Sides are also supported as a separate category — they show up alongside your main dishes on the weekly menu.
How do I add a recipe link or notes to a meal?
When creating or editing a meal, you can paste a recipe URL and add notes (like prep tips or substitutions). These are visible to everyone in your group when they view the meal detail.
